Welcome
to the International Junior Golf Challenge (IJGC)!
The IJGC provides junior golfers, no matter their financial situation, an arena in which they can sharpen their skills and showcase their talents for the purpose of obtaining college scholarships or professional placement.
Formed in 1996 by the Princeton Golf Foundation - a nonprofit organization, the IJGC’s purpose
is to foster an atmosphere in which monetary boundaries, such as travel expenses and exorbitant greens fees, are removed.
Initially, the IJGC created and ran a national schedule of 135 tournaments in 30 states. Although successful, this program had deficiencies due to the time burden placed upon the pros and their assistants running the tournaments.
This new interactive web-based program is the IJGC’s remedy. It synthesizes most aspects of tournament competition and reporting into a simple, easy to maintain web application. And, by using a courses’ slope rating, the playing field is leveled, creating a system which enables the IJGC to fairly compare scores regionally, nationally… even internationally. What’s more, the junior golfer NEVER has to face the expense of entering a tournament. They can play on their home course, achieving the goal of the IJGC… making competitive golf affordable for ALL junior golfers.
How it works:
The pros at each golf course run an independent junior program. The northern part
of the United States will run these programs seasonally, while the southern states
can run theirs year round. The junior programs have clinics in the morning and
play regulation rounds in the afternoon. The pro posts the scores of those intra-mural
rounds daily or weekly on our web site via a secure form. The IJGC sanctions them
as "official rounds" in the IJGC program. Because slope (the USGA recognized
method of ranking course difficulty) is used in our ranking calculations, a junior
in Texas could compete against a junior in New Jersey. The scores would then be
ranked regionally and nationally on a daily basis by varying criteria: age, gender,
tee position, and quantity of rounds played. The annual competition would end
on a scheduled date. National champions would be crowned in five age brackets
in both male and female divisions. Second through fifth places would also be recognized.
The juniors in the golf professional’s program can now vie for a regional, national
or international championship without ever leaving their home course, or bearing
the expense of tournament entry fees, greens fees, or travel expenses.
The Princeton Golf Academy is the organization responsible for the administration
of The International Junior Golf Challenge.
